At Pinfold Street, the health, safety and inclusion of every child are central to everything that we do. With many children now affected by allergies, we believe that effective allergy management is key to maintaining a safe and supportive learning atmosphere.

To ensure the wellbeing of all pupils with allergies, we have a range of procedures in place:

• Spare adrenaline auto-injectors are available in school for use in emergencies.

• All staff receive annual training enabling them to recognise the signs of an allergic reaction and how to respond appropriately, this includes the correct use of an adrenaline auto-injector (AAI).

• Many members of staff hold a Paediatric First Aid certificate. We also have four staff who hold the first aid at work qualification.

• All children’s medical and dietary requirements are identified on a central register.

• Any child requiring an AAI has an Individual Healthcare Plan (IHP) in place. AN IHP is based on each child’s specific needs and is reviewed regularly.  

• Our catering team is highly vigilant and follows strict processes and procedures to prevent cross contamination and to communicate allergen information.

• We actively promote an allergy-aware whole school culture, promoting kindness, responsibility and understanding throughout our school community.

 

Through staff training, planning and communication, we are committed to ensuring any member of the Pinfold family with an allergy feels safe, supported and fully included in all aspects of school life.
