Art and Design
Intent
Our intent for Art and Design at Pinfold Street is to engage and inspire every pupil to explore, experiment and create their own original pieces. Through carefully sequenced lessons that build practical skills (drawing, painting, sculpture and craft) and knowledge of artists and techniques, we want pupils to record observations, express ideas and develop confidence. Art learning is rooted in our school values and prepares pupils for life by developing creativity, resilience and cultural awareness.
Implementation
The curriculum is planned in well-sequenced, progressive lessons. The children are taught in blocks to immerse them in their learning to enable them to know more and remember more. We use Grammarsaurus units of work to support our art and design curriculum.
Impact
Pupils are expected to know, apply and understand the principles, skills and processes specified in the relevant programme of study. Children collate their ideas and progression in their sketchbooks and on Seesaw, which provides valuable evidence of curriculum impact and art skills progression. The profile and importance of the creative visual arts is raised, maintained and celebrated through displays around the school.
