MFL - French
Intent
Through carefully sequenced lessons, we build vocabulary, pronunciation and basic grammar so pupils can express needs, opinions and ideas. Alongside these skills, we foster curiosity about French-speaking cultures and a deeper understanding of the world, widening pupils’ perspectives and preparing them for life beyond primary school.
Implementation
The curriculum is planned in well-sequenced, progressive lessons. Children are taught in blocks to immerse them in their learning to enable them to know more and remember more. We use Grammarsaurus units of work to support our MFL curriculum.
Impact
Pupils can understand and use a growing bank of vocabulary and common words, read and spell simple words accurately, and construct and manipulate short sentences using taught grammar. This strengthened subject knowledge means most pupils take part in short spoken exchanges and write simple phrases and sentences with increasing accuracy. As a result, pupils are better prepared for the next stage of their language learning and show improved confidence in communication across the curriculum.
